It's cute AND functional, and the best part it was basically FREE! A few years ago my Aunt had given me a few Crystal Lite containers that I had stashed away thinking I could alter them somehow. When I was searching for a way to store my new markers I found that these containers were a perfect fit. Since they are flat on the sides they are easily stacked. Lucky for me she had several more of these stashed away (thanks Aunt Roberta!) so I decided 6 was a good number to start with. Each cubby can comfortably hold 10 Blendies...so I should be good for a while!
All I did was adhere some washi tape around each edge...I used a pattern from Epic Day and one from Season of Style (this is actually on the Clearance Rack right now). Then I adhered them together using Wafer Thin Velcro Fasteners. This way if I decide to change the configuration later or swap out the washi tape design it will be easy to do so. Here's how my new caddy looks sitting on my desk.
I keep my other markers in these acrylic containers* along with my ink pads, and I like that the recycled Crystal Lite containers are clear so they all kind of match. I work so much better when my work space is uncluttered and I know where things are. Hopefully this idea will inspire you to reuse/recycle something you have laying around and turn it into something functional.

HAPPY Mother's Day to all you Moms! Have a wonderful weekend!!!
*Every time I post photos of my work space I get a LOT of questions regarding my ink storage containers. I purchased these on line quite a while back from a company called Dzyntec. Unfortunately, they have since gone out of business.
What a clever idea and great use of recyclable items. The washi tape adds personality and it complements your work space perfectly. Good job!!
ReplyDeleteLove that idea, Lynn!! The result is both pretty and practical. Thanks for sharing!

Well Lynn, this is BRILLIANT....And FUNCTIONAL......And PRETTY....to say nothing about SUPER SMART! Thanks for sharing with us. Going to give this project an try.
ReplyDeleteThis looks so classy and practical too. Card stock containers are too flimsy when you are pulling the markers in and out with continual use. I love your idea! TFS
ReplyDeleteThanks for the nice comments! I'm glad you like this idea. So far it's working out really well for me...I can easily grab the markers I want while working and put them back when done.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely LOVE your idea here....I just got a ton of Spectrum Noir and I plan to get the SU! ones as well so will have to try some of these to assist in my organization! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWonderful idea! Very simple. Thanks for the inspiration!!

ReplyDeleteWhat a cute idea! Wow I am amazed your crystal lights are clear. Mine have always been a white or an opaque "whitish clear" sorta lemonade color with a lot of lemon juice in it :-). But the packaging is def not clear. I wonder if they are slight variations to the packaging regionally.
I am always wondering how to recycle them. The only thing I thought of is brushes in my purses. :-) Wish I can find the see through ones! TFS!

I have 4 of those DZyntech storage cases too and I'd get more if I could. I hung mine on my wall. I also just happen to have a bunch of those iced tea containers and I am so going to make me some marker storage! Thank you!!
ReplyDeletegreat idea! Currently, I have a pyramid of plastic glasses glued together. But I do have a box of containers I got from my SIL who is a dental assistant. They might be the perfect fit! Thanks for the idea. Creative Blessings! Kelly
