Today I am sharing a card that I basically copied off myself. I created the first card using the same technique & colors a few years back. Since this card (shown here ) using the Just Believe stamp set has been consistently a favorite, according to my stats both here and on Pinterest, I thought I would try another version using Serene Silhouettes.
To create the shadow on the image and really make it pop, it was first stamped in Soft Suede and then using my Stamp-a-ma-jig I offset the image and stamped it again in VersaMark. Then it was embossed using Winter White EP. To make the white image stand out even more on the Very Vanilla card stock, I lightly sponged it with Crumb Cake ink using a Sponge Dauber.
This version of the card looks more distressed and antiqued than my original card by inking up the edges and also inking the Beautifully Baroque embossing folder with Crumb Cake ink before running it through the Big Shot.
The little butterfly, from Papillon Potpourri and the Basic Pearls used to adorn the ribbon and flowers add just the right finishing details.
Do you use Pinterest? Here is something to consider when pinning:
Like I mentioned earlier in this post, I can tell if a particular blog posting is popular by checking my stats here and also on Pinterest. Before Pinterest, I used to be able to tell if a post was well liked by the comments received on the actual posting. Now it seems most people don't take the time to post comments anymore, but instead, pin something if they like it...and yes, I'm guilty of the same thing!
I LOVE Pinterest, so I'm certainly not knocking it BUT every now and then I come across a pin where the pinner is criticizing the creation in the pin description. This just happened to me recently where someone pinned one of my cards, and said they liked the layout, but then went on to say what they didn't like. "OK...thanks for the backhanded compliment B*$%!", I thought to myself. Later, I thought more about it...and it kind of made me mad. Us bloggers take a lot of time to share our creations with others. Most, including myself, are certainly not getting compensated for the time we put into it. Should we really have to read negative comments on a very public forum like Pinterest?
I know what I post is appealing to some and to others...not so much. I'm fine with that...everyone has different tastes. But unless the person posting is asking for opinions why would someone think it's OK to make negative remarks? For those who need to critique and criticize then maybe they should have a secret board dedicated to those pins?
Just something to consider when you are pinning someones creation...we never know who is reading what we write and how our words can hurt others who were simply sharing something they thought was their best work. One nice comment can make someone's day...but a negative one can ruin the fun of sharing.
Thanks for stopping by and if you read the above...thanks for listening.
Well, I for one think this is a gorgeous card and have pinned it. I have some new rose paper that this particular layout would work really well. How do you know when someone has pinned one of your cards? I have a pinterest board for some of my cards but not all of them so I know that the cards of mine that I've pinned have been repinned by others, but what about the ones I haven't pinned but others have?
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful, serene card. I agree with your comments re Pinterest. I always try to take the time to leave a positive comment on the blog post when I'm pinning and I would never consider putting a negative comment on the pin. Sorry you had this thoughtless action happen to you - not nice.
ReplyDeleteSeriously?? Someone said something negative about one of your cards?? They obviously do not have as refined tastes as you, or me since I love your style. When Pinterest first started I was always sure to credit you when I pinned a card. I like now that your mane goes on there right away. As always, thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYou've made a good point, I'm very lazy when it comes to commenting but would never dream of criticising. I mean to say, how rude, why bother pinning. Your cards are all fabulous by the way.
ReplyDeleteThis card is beautiful, as are all of your cards! I think that is terrible that someone would criticize someone else's card, not a very nice person at all. I really appreciate all the time and effort you put into sharing your cards with us!
ReplyDeleteThis card is absolutely GORGEOUS! I can't wait to give it a try, maybe this weekend.
ReplyDeleteI'm so sorry that people can be so rude. Whatever happened to "If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all."?
Social media is nice I suppose, but it sure leaves us open and vulnerable. I'd so much rather have people leave a nice comment on my blog. That's probably why I shy away from Pinterest, plus, I can't access it from the office. LOL
Keep the great creations coming!!
Hugs!
Oh, honey! Please don't pay attention to that comment! YOU are incredibly talented! I always adore your cards!!! Thank you so much for sharing your talents!
ReplyDeleteYour card is gorgeous, as are all your creations.
ReplyDeleteI agree with everyone's comment and think that if you can't say something nice, don't bother to say anything. We do work hard to make our creations and post them for the enjoyment and inspiration for others. Keep making your lovely creations.
You do beautiful work and were so helpful with a watercolor technique a few months back!!!
ReplyDeleteYour work is beautiful, and it inspires me! Thank you for sharing! Big inky hugs, Chris Kolly
ReplyDeleteI am guilty of not commenting but pinning what I love. And I love this card. I'm pretty sure I've pinned other postings of yours as well. Thank you for sharing your creativity.
ReplyDeleteI really love this card, and although I don't have the exact same items to replicate it, rest assured, I'll be doing my best to try it! Imitation is the highest form of flattery they say. I hope you are alright with my using the idea :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for all the nice comments!
ReplyDeleteMickey...have fun recreating with what you have on hand! Would love to see your version!
Absolutely stunning! I definitely want to try this one! Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteLove your card. I don't know how to 'PIN' but I just 'save' and it goes automatically to my photo program which is Picasa which was free.
ReplyDeleteI only SAVE cards I really love and hope you keep making your beautiful cards. I live in Queensland, Australia so it is lovely to see what people in other parts of the world make ! Colleen Green
Your card is beautiful...as was your original, which I probably pinned back then, too! One of the biggest problems with being able to post anonymously is that people think they have the right to be rude and/or downright mean. I doubt you would see as much negativity if people had to identify themselves when posting their opinions. You see this attitude across all the online venues. Take heart in the fact that you are extremely talented and that your beautiful creations inspire so many people to try new things. I would never be able to come up the ideas, but I'm a good CASE'r! LOL Thank you for sharing your incredible talent and just ignore those people who don't share our love of your cards. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteLive the card and agree with your thoughts about comments. Sad that anonymity brings out the worst in people. Common courtesy had been lost. "If you can't set anything nice then don't say anything" - I think that's true even more for writing it down!!
