Flashback Friday - Medallion to the Rescue

Sorry that I've been MIA all week. :-( I wish I could tell you that I was up to something fun, but truth is I had a migraine that lasted a few days, so no fun for sure! Today's share is something kind of different, but shows you how you can incorporate stamping into your decor.

Before the migraine took over, I had been giving my home office a little makeover. My Mom came over to help me hang some scarf valances on the window. I used two different colored scarves and it was kind of a pain to get it to look just right. When we finally got it looking pretty good, it still needed something at the center. My Mom said, "why couldn't you just use one of your stamps and card stock to make something to match?" I have to admit, at first I didn't like the idea, but then, I remembered my old favorite background stamp...Medallion. At that point I thought..."hmmm...she might actually be on to something!"

The window wall in the room is painted a shade similar to Stampin' Up!'s retired color Not Quite Navy. So I embossed the Medallion image in Silver on the Not Quite Navy cardstock. I did this twice and cut out with two different sized circle framelits. I also cut some chipboard the same size. I adhered the embossed circles onto the chipboard to give it more stability.

This is the best close-up photo I could get...it really isn't so shiny looking in real life, and actually matches the rod pretty well. The Antique Brad in the center and some Stampin' Dimensionals help give it some depth. I just attached it to the center of the scarf with a clip on the back.

Elegant Embossed Medallion

Here is an elegant card I created as one of my entries for the Artisan Award Contest.

I used a couple of my favorite, now retired sets...Medallion & Vintage Vogue along with the Very Vintage wheel. The Medallion is embossed in White EP and then I sponged on Crumb Cake & Early Espresso ink. Then it received some shimmer with some Vanilla Shimmer Smooch Spritz.

Medallion on Canvas

We finally got done with a bathroom remodel project and I needed a couple small pieces of art to hang above my towels next to each sink. After numerous shopping trips,  I either could not find the right size or the right color, or style I was looking for, so I decided to get out my stamps and create my own works of art!

I used a couple 8x8 canvases and basecoated them with my wall paint, which is kind of like a lighter shade of Baja Breeze. Then using acrylic paint I painted off a band of chocolate on the left side. I also used acrylic paints applied with a foam brush right on my stamps. The trickiest part was trying to get a nice clean image, because the canvas is stretched on the wood frame...so there is a lot of give. I found it easiest to place my stamp where I wanted it, and while holding it firmly in place, I flipped the canvas over and used my hands and bone folder to rub the canvas over the stamp. Ater I had all my images stamped I antiqued it with some of the brown paint mixed with glaze. I rubbed it on and then rubbed off where I didn't want it as dark. I used an Antique Brad and some Chocolate Chip Scallop Dots Ribbon for the finishing touch. I also have something, or I should say someone, else that is just so cute I have to share. Meet little Stevie. We just adopted him from the Animal Shelter, and while he's not much of a stamper or typist, he's the sweetest little thing! He meows until I pick him up to sit on my lap and then when he's bored with that he tries his hand, or I guess paw, at typing or running on my stamping table. He has yet to discover my ribbon...

Silver Medallion

The Medallion stamp make such elegant cards I keep using it for weddings and anniversaries...including my own. My wonderful hubby and I just celebrated our Silver Wedding Anniversary this past week. It's hard to believe that 25 years have gone by so quickly!

This is embossed in Silver on Shimmery White card stock and then layered onto Brushed Silver. This photo doesn't capture all of that too well, so here's another shot.

I just love the new Antique Brads and the Adhesive backed Rhinestone Jewels. I even was able to adhere a rhinestone to the center of the brad here.

We celebrated our anniversary early this year - with a trip to Hawaii in March, so we just had a quiet relaxing day at home followed by a nice dinner at a favorite local restaurant. Here's how we looked 25 years ago.

We were just kids! I think I was only about 12...LOL! Here's to the next 25...Enjoy your day!

Personalized Wedding & Anniversary Cards

This has been a REALLY busy past couple of weeks for us! We've been to grad & anniversary parties, 4 concerts and also managed to complete a landscaping project here at home in between all the running. I received a new box of goodies from SU! and haven't had time to play with them yet...so sad! I did manage to make cards for all the celebrations we've been to.

Sorry about the weird angle of the card in this photo. I was trying to capture the shimmery background and the shiny embossed medallion. I embossed this using Clear EP on Shimmery White card stock. Then I sponged on Marina Mist and Baja Breeze. Here's another card I made for a 50th Wedding Anniversary party.

Doesn't the Brushed Gold card stock look gorgeous embossed with the new Vintage Wallpaper folder? Both cards use JustRite Monogram stamps to allow the personalization. I've always wanted to try these, and had the opportunity when stamping with a friend recently. (thanks Karman!) It is really tedious to set up all the lettering, but it's worth it to have the personalization.

Both cards also use the new adhesive backed Jewels available in the new catalog. They come in both rhinestones & pearls. Love those things! So glad SU! is finally carrying them! They have so many awesome new embellishments in this catalog. Here are the first ones I got in my first new catalog order.

The pearls & rhinestones come in 3 sizes and also in 3 connected strips. The Antique Brads are amazingly GORGEOUS! And the new assortments of Designer Buttons are way CUTE! I got the Brights collection...ooooh...Razzleberry buttons!!! I think this coming week I'll have time to play with some of my new goodies!

Vintage Medallion Trio

Here is another trio of cards we made at my last card class. This set uses one of my favorite stamps...the Medallion Background.

Creating a beautiful card with the Medallion stamp is so easy. Combine it with the Vintage Label set available during SAB and the Very Vintage Jumbo wheel from the Occasions Mini for a winning combo. Its shown here in three different color combos: Perfect Plum & Vanilla, Close to Cocoa & Pretty in Pink and Sage Shadow and Blush Blossom.

Wedding Medallion

Today my card reflects a little of what I am seeing out my window...lots of sparkling white! It's been snowing non stop since around midnight last night. This is a wedding card I made for my cousin who recently got married.

The beautiful Medallion image was embossed in Winter White EP on Shimmery White cardstock. Then using a sponge dauber I added a little Sahara Sand ink. The center of the Medallion was stamped and embossed a second time and punched out using the 1-3/4" Circle Punch and popped up with dimensionals. The bottom third of the panel was dry embossed using my Big Shot and the Perfect Details Texturz Plate. I added some Whisper White Organza Ribbon and adhered it to a Very Vanilla base. The sentiment is from the Teeny Tiny Wishes set.
