Pocketful of Posies

I'm just lovin' creating adorable little pockets using the the Pocketful of Sunshine stamp set with it's coordinating Pocket Framelits. The pocket framelit both cuts and scores so you can create these little pockets in no time! Here is a fun card that uses the Flower Shop stamp set as well. This is one of the cards we made at my All Occasions Card Class last week.

The pocket is sized perfectly to hold a gift card or a tag. In this case the pocket holds a tag with a message.

I just cut the pocket shaped tag along the inner stitching so it was a little smaller than the pocket to easily slide in and out.

The "you make me smile" sentiment is from the Colorful Seasons stamp set. Love the font used in that set! I also love this color combo...Pool Party, Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach, Berry Burst & Lemon Lime Twist...it's so happy & fun! As long as I'm calling out favorite new products...LOVE the Pinewood Planks Embossing Folder!

Dad's Pocket

The Pocketful of Sunshine stamp set with the coordinating Pocket Framelits is super fun and makes creating pocket cards super easy!

I stamped the stitching onto Marina Mist cardstock using Dapper Denim Ink. One pass through the Big Shot cuts and scores the pocket...so easy! Then I used a longtime retired favorite background stamp...Linen, to create the look of denim on both the pocket and the background panel. The cute little "DAD tag" was stamped onto Smokey Slate using the Thoughtful Banners stamp set. "You Rock" across the bottom is from the retired Crazy About You set.

This pocket was to hold concert tickets so I used a non SU! set I have in my stash that features a guitar and other rocker style images.

I think the Pocketful of Sunshine set is going to be a lot of fun for both cards and scrapbook pages.

Butterfly Bookmark Pocket Card

It's a card! It's a bookmark! It's...a bookmark pocket card! Sorry...not enough coffee yet this morning to come up with a more creative name! Anyways, here it is...

I started with the very versatile set, Work of Art to create the colorful, watercolor look background on the Whisper White bookmark. Then I stamped the butterflies from Papillon Potpourri and filled in the blank space with the swirl from Everything Eleanor. Last, I used a splatter image from Gorgeous Grunge.

Since there is so much color and detail on the bookmark, I opted to go with a solid color (Coastal Cabana) for the main panel of the card and just add some texture using a couple favorite embossing folders...Decorative Dots & Zig Zag. I positioned the butterflies on the base of the card to line up with the bookmark when it was inserted in the pocket. Here's a closer look at the bookmark...

After stamping, I laminated it using my Xyron machine and added the large eyelet and some pretty fibers I had on hand. The colors of the fibers coordinate surprisingly well with the colors of ink I used...which was a happy coincidence because I didn't plan it that way. Here's a look at the back...

Secret Garden Flower Pot Pocket Card

I've made several of these flower pot cards in the past and couldn't wait to try another one using the Secret Garden set & matching Framelits.

Each flower was embossed using Pool Party Embossing Powder & then water colored using the Aqua Painter & Classic Inks. Here's a look at the flower tag pulled out from the flower pot pocket base. The oval "happy birthday" tag was created using the Oval All set (retired) and Teeny Tiny Wishes.

The flower pot base was embossed using the Fancy Fan Embossing Folder which compliments the scalloped rim nicely...that was cut using the Large Scallop Edgelit and embossed with the Delicate Designs Embossing Folder. To give it a little more definition, I used a sponge dauber & Wisteria Wonder Ink to highlight the embossing. Here's a closer look.

I created this card to match a cute little cardboard container I found at the Dollar Tree. Since I wanted it to fit inside the box & appear to be part of the wrap, I wasn't worried about this card fitting into an envelope...which was rather nice when designing.

I chose my colors of Pool Party, Wisteria Wonder, Regal Rose, Lucky Limeade & So Saffron to coordinate with the gift box. Here's how it looks when it is in the box.

May Flowers

Wow...I guess it's been a while since I posted! I've been keeping busy working around the house...both inside and out. When the the weather has been nice...working in my garden and on not so nice days painting and re-organizing indoors. That has not left me a whole lot of time for stamping, posting here or visiting my blogging friends...sorry. I did make a thank you card that I thought was pretty cute, so thought I'd take time out to share here today since it's been a while.

The color combo of Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, Peach Parfait & Melon Mambo make this flower pot pocket card so cheerful, don't you think? I used the rock 'n roll technique on the butterfly from the Great Friend set. I also used the flower image from the Level 1 set Punch Potpourri along with the Boho Blossoms Punch for the center of each flower. Here's what the card looks like when it's pulled from the flower pot pocket.

I attached the die cut Simple Flower Embosslits with pop dots towards the top so they could slip over top of the pot. For more instructions on how to create this card see this older post I made here.

From the Crypt Pocket Card

I've been dying...no pun intended...to play with my new Halloween stuff! This year will be our 20th annual Halloween party, so I know I want to do something really special for the invites. Was thinking maybe a pocket card...here's my first attempt.

I used both the Graveyard Gala and From the Crypt stamp sets along with the spooktacular Cast-a-Spell papers. All images were stamped in VersaMark and then embossed with Black Embossing powder.

Botanical Bookmark Card

Sorry it's been a while since I've posted. It's been pretty busy around the house. Saturday was my birthday and my nephew's graduation party. Then on Sunday my "baby boy" graduated High School...*sniff* It doesn't seem that long ago that we were sending him off to Kindergarten. My husband is on vacation all this week and we are trying to get some work done around here. Actually...right now I'm supposed to be "getting ready" to head out to Home Depot to buy some paint & stain, but I'm sneaking on the computer so I can share this card.
I used a couple of my favorite retired sets to make this - Still Life Stems and Botanicals, along with a new set from the Occasions Mini - Oval All. The pocket was made using card stock vellum which I ran through the Big Shot with the swirly texturz plate. Colors used are: Perfect Plum, Mellow Moss & Elegant Eggplant.

Here's a couple photos taken on Sunday. It turned out to be a beautiful day, with only a few sprinkles, so the commencements were held outdoors so it was really nice.

I also wanted to share the gorgeous quilted tote my Mom made for me for my birthday.
Isn't is cute? She does such beautiful work. The inside has lots of pockets for cell phone, keys etc...I LOVE it!

Flowers Just For You

After seeing all the cute flower pot pocket cards everyone has been posting on SCS lately, I had to give one a try. Here's what I came up with: I used my Big Shot and the Simple Flower Embosslit along with the Birds & Blooms and Little Leaves Sizzlits to cut all the flowers and leaves. I stamped the butterfly from the Great Friends set in Baja Blue and cut it out. The "just for you" sentiment is from the new Oval All set and punched with SU! newest punch...the Scallop Oval. I used Parisian Breeze paper on the pot and the Eyelet border punch on the rim. Here's what it looks like with the pocket pulled out:

The swirls across the bottom and the little stamped flowers on top of the embossed ones came from the Simple Friendship set. This was a fun card to make. Here is the link to a great tutorial on how to make one yourself. I have one tip I learned while creating my flower pot card: Have an envelope handy as you are building your flowers. I had to cut off a lot of the leaves I originally had glued on because it was just too large to fit inside a standard envelope.

Boho Double Pocket Card

On my last post I shared a gift set I was giving to my Aunt for her birthday. Today I'm sharing the card I made to go with it. I knew I wanted to make her a cute Boho Bookmark, so I thought it was the perfect time to try one of those cute double pocket cards to put the bookmark in. There is a great tutorial on SCS for the double pocket card, and those were the instructions that I followed...it was way easier than I thought! One tip I learned is to really make sure of your final layout & complete all embellishments on your card front before adhering the pockets with the sticky strip! Don't ask how I found that out! lol

I hope you all had a nice 4th of July yesterday! Ours was really nice. We enjoyed a beautiful day at the lake with family. My Aunt had a lovely birthday celebration and she loved this card and of course the stamps and scallop punch we gave her. Looks like another gorgeous day today...ENJOY!

Seed Pocket and Cutie Pie Pinwheel

Friday night was my Hostess Stamp Club night...and as always we had a fun evening of visiting and stamping. I can't believe we only have one more meeting left!

Everyone made this pocket card that holds a pack of Morning Glory seeds. They are attached to a piece of card stock with a single brad for easy removal. The card is stamped with the sentiment under the seed packet.

This pocket card was made using the Wild Wasabi textured card stock from last months promo. I just cut it down to 4-1/4 x 11. It is scored at 5- 1/2 and again at 1- 1/2" for the folded down flap. I used the closest SU! colors to match the seed packet - Brocade Blue, Barely Banana & Almost Amethyst Prints. The flower was water colored, but I used my pastels to create the soft blended background.

The other card we did was a spinner card done at our May Hostess, Miriam's request. She just loved a sample I had done last spring using Polka Dots & Paisley with the matching Petals & Paisleys paper. Spinner cards are fun to make...and even more fun to play with! The cute little pinwheel is a great way to showcase both sides of the designer papers too.

The image on the card spins after attaching it to two pennies with pop dots sandwiched between them. These are then put inside a track created by the window word punch. For a great tutorial showing exactly how to create a spinner card click here. Keep in mind this tutorial was created before the Window Word punch...so now it's even easier to make one of these cute cards!

To create the pinwheel I started with a 2" square of Cutie Pie designer paper. I cut it at a diagonal on each corner stopping before I hit the center mark. Then fold every other corner into the center holding it in place with a bit of mono multi adhesive. A punched flower and a brad finish it off and also helps to hold it altogether securely.

It's All Good!

Last night was stamp club night, and like always we had fun visiting, eating & stampin'! Hostess of the month - Kim, brought a super yummy dessert called Lemon Berry Trifle Thanks Kim!

I prepared a scrapbook page and a pocket card for everyone to make. The scrapbook page used a combination of different sets to create a fun and happy page. I have been wanting to use It's All Good along with Pick A Petal for a scrapbook page so that was my inspiration. Normally I have photos I want to use and that's where I decide my color scheme, but since I wasn't sure which photos I was going to use I took my color cue from the designer paper I chose - the Flowers For You assortment. I figured these papers would work well with the bold images from the Pick A Petal set and the other assorted flower stamps I planned to use. See the striped "ribbon" down the side? This was created by scoring and folding over the double-sided paper.

Since Live Your Dreams is one of my favorite new stamps sets, of course I had to use the cute line stamp in that set to create a journaling block! First I stamped the Live, Laugh & Love stamp in the bottom corner, masked it with a post-it note and used my Stamp-a-ma-jig to add the lines so they didn't end up crooked. Then I used my markers to ink up the cute little line of flowers at the top - also from the Live Your Dream set.

I gave everyone a choice of which piece of patterned paper they would like to use for their page and what color they would like for the background. Each one picked a different patterned piece so the finished pages all looked unique. It was fun for me to see how each page turned out looking so different just with those little changes. They all did a great job, don't you think?!

The pocket card was created using the Wild Wasabi pre-scored card stock from the Wild For Wasabi promotion. I had to trim it down a bit so that the finished card would fit in a standard envelope. I thought this would be a cute little card to give someone next time they ask for a recipe. Or maybe give as a little thank you card to someone who hosted a potluck type party...you could include the recipe for the dish you brought to pass.

Can you tell I'm just loving the Live Your Dream stamp set and the matching Afternoon Tea papers? I can't stop reaching for them every time I stamp lately. The pullout is a recipe card using From the Kitchen Of stamp set and the same color scheme I used for the cards in my recipe box set.

I guess we'll know the answer tomorrow when the retiring list is posted! However, I have a sneaky suspicion that my very first Stampin' Up! set will be on it. But then again... that's what I thought last time, and good ol' Frosty survived!


Another old favorite that we might have to say good-bye to also is Flakey Friends. Here's another pocket card that I created using that set. Since there is some detail on the inside card I'll show it to you pulled out of the pocket. Now that I'm looking at this card, it makes me worried about two of my favorite background stamps...Print Pattern and Weathered, I sure hope those don't go! Or what about the Canvas stamp I used on the Frosty card?! I shudder at the thought!



Pocket cards are fun to make, but since more work goes into making them, I only send them to people that I hope won't throw them in the trash after a couple days. Can you imagine? I try not to even think about it, but I'm sure that's where a lot of my beloved creations end up. Oh well, I know I had fun making them and hopefully the recipient gets some enjoyment out of them before they get trashed.



For these pocket cards I cut my card stock in half long ways: 11"x 4-1/4". I scored at the 5-1/2" mark and either folded down the 1-1/2" flap or cut it off. When I fold down the flap I like to stamp it with a different background then I did on the rest of the pocket.



Since I'm sharing some pocket cards today and discussing the retiring list, here is another pocket card using a beautiful Christmas set that was in the 2005 Holiday Mini catalog. I'm sure glad I got this set when it was available! This one is called Christmas Cardinal. I've made so many beautiful cards with this set. The images are so detailed and fun to watercolor. I am hoping for some more beautiful line art images in the new catalog. Especially those that are nature related...those are my favorite!

Many Bundles of Joy

The past couple of weeks I have been hearing all sorts of great baby news! First off, a member of my downline just became the grandmother of triplets! Can you image? How exciting is that? Then I heard some more wonderful baby news last time I got together with my stamp club ladies. One of them is expecting her first child! What an exciting time for her and her husband!

Lucky for me that I had just gotten the super cute Bundle of Joy set. (I had been eyeing this set since it was in the spring Mini catalog...don't know what took me so long to buy it?) Now I actually even have a reason to create some fun baby stuff!

I can not yet post what I made for the new grandma of triplets, because I haven't given it to her yet. (and it's killing me, because it's so cute!) As far as my expecting friend, I know she already received my congratulations card, so it is OK to post it here without ruining the surprise. I sure didn't want her to see it here before it came in the mail!

I made her a fun pocket card and it turned out pretty darn cute, if I do say so myself! I just love the little giraffe and teddy bear images in this set...they're too cute! Anyways...on to the details:

Quick & Easy Pocket Card

I'm still busy finishing up painting my bedroom. So far I painted the walls, stenciled at ceiling around the entire room and then added a faux treatment - lighter glaze which I rag rolled onto the walls. Today it's time to paint the trim. It will be nice to get everything moved back in there later.

Yesterday was my oldest son's birthday. He turned 19! I can hardly believe it! (I was only 10 when he was born! hehe) Where does the time go? Since I have been so busy painting, I needed to make him a quick and easy card. Teens...I think they really only care what's inside the card anyways! So I made him a pocket card to hold the cash we gave him as a gift.

All I did was score and fold my card stock at 2" and again at 6". I folded up the bottom 2" and secured the sides with sticky strip and this became my pocket. Super easy and I think it turned out cute. He liked it! (well, what was in it anyways!)
