Getting my stampin' space organized for the New Year!

I don't know about you, but "getting more organized" is always at the top of my list of goals each and every New Year. Over the years I've really gotten better at staying organized, but my stampin'/crafting space is always the first area to get overly cluttered. I think the main reason I have a harder time staying organized with my supplies is that I have two areas set up as stampin' spaces. Both are located in the lower level of our home. My first space is an extra bedroom with a good sized closet. The other area is my classroom area which is set up in the 2nd kitchen area.

I'm constantly going back & forth between the two areas to get things, and pretty soon both areas end up in a big mess! I think my paper scraps are the worst! Right now my desk is covered in piles of paper that need to get organized. My two classroom tables are also both covered...one in gift wrapping supplies still out from Christmas and the other with my stamping stuff.

When I was doing some blog hopping last night visiting my Sisterhood Bloggers I noticed many of them were posting their new years resolutions along with challenges to themselves. It got me thinking...If I took photos of my messy stamping area and posted them here on my blog where you could all see what a slob I am...then it might help to get my butt in gear and clean it up! So here goes!
This is my messy desk piled in packs of paper and all kinds of scraps. Below is one of my paper storage areas, along with my drafting table piled with more stuff. This is my class room area with two 8 foot tables covered with things that need to be put away.
Trust me...there is way more! For now, these are my target areas. I'm going downstairs now, and I'll update later with after photos to show the progress I make. If I do good...I might even have a little time (and space!) to do some stampin'!

I hear that! It always seems that the scrap paper pieces cause the biggest problems...I was just thinking about this last night while I was cleaning up (ONCE AGAIN!) from scrapping. I was thinking that I would put my scraps in a basket for later filing. At least then they will look neat and not clutter up my scrapping space so much! Good luck with your endeavor...even though to me it still looks very organized! :)

I just got in from buying some stuff to get more organized too. Looks like we are on the same path today.

I feel your pain. I keep all my scraps divided by color families, but I really have a hard time putting them in their bags. They usually just end up all over my desk. Good luck organizing!

You're very brave to post your messy room pictures! I plan to do the same soon. I keep my scraps in a folder right in front of the folder of full sheets of the same color. I'm pretty good about using them, but certain colors just pile up - like Certainly Celery. Why in the world do I have ten pounds of celery colored scrap paper? Thanks for sharing your photos!

getting scrapps was one thing I really wanted done I think it really helped with the ziplock baggies different sizes I put smallones in a photo box and the larger in a file organizer in bags then I can just pull it before I go to a full sheet. It took all day yea I know when do you find time I cleared a table and worked off and on so I didnt get sick of it or just do it and get it over. Also I found the sterlite drawers work good for me for all my paper, stickers they stack and stay dust free then you can pull a drawer to work with. I hope something I have helps.

Here's to getting organized this year! I love your space by the way, I'm very jealous! It's awesome that you have a place to do workshops and classes. Hope your organizing goes smoothly! :)

Hi Lynn:

Don't know if I mentioned this or not prior to your posting, but I recently put all my scraps in plastic sheet protectors by color families. Each color family is put together with one of those rings that opens and closed. So I can grab a certain color family (by the ring) and look through it for what I need. I also put the name of each color on the left side of the sheet protector with a Sharpie marker to quickly see what color I need. I then placed all my scraps in a plastic container (sitting upright) that sits next to my full size card stock, so it is easily accessible and in my sight at all times. This does promote using my scraps more often instead of searching through my full size card stock in file folders which used to also have all my scraps in it and jammed so tight that it was difficult to get my card stock out. Hope this helps. :0) Karman
